New halogen-free thermoplastic sheathing compounds
In response to the growing demand for safer and more reliable solutions, our company has recently expanded its product offering by developing cutting-edge halogen-free thermoplastic sheathing compounds, specifically engineered for cables with superior fire resistance. These advanced materials are crucial for a variety of applications such in tunnels, buildings, and industrial settings since they are made to withstand high temperatures and prevent the spread of fire.
Our innovative solutions are tailored as jackets for low voltage (LV) cables that must meet strict fire classifications according to the Construction Products Regulation, (CPR). Thanks to the inclusion of high-quality metal hydrates, our products, namely EKOPREN® 3ST331 and EKOPREN® 3ST341, are particularly effective in maintaining circuit integrity under extremely high temperatures. Both products comply with the specifications of the M16 grade, as outlined in the Italian normative CEI 20-11, and the German standards VDE 0207 part 24 (HM2-HM4 types), ensuring enhanced flame-retardant properties with limit oxygen indexes (LOI) above 44%. Additionally, our thermoplastic sheathing compounds can be used in cold conditions, withstanding temperatures as low as -30°C, and they offer good resistance to oil.
As we strive to continuously offer innovative products that meet our customers’ needs, we are also exploring different formulations of thermoplastic compounds. These include sheathing grades designed to meet the specifications of the TM7 type (EN 50363-8 standard), which require particular flexibility and water resistance, as well as sheathing with even better fire resistance properties.
EKOPREN® and EKOgraft®, our brands
Alongside the EKOPREN® brand, we also recently developed EKOgraft®, a series of moisture-curable compounds for the wires and cables market. This new brand represents a unique range of products with completely re-imagined formulations from the very beginning.
